Become an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor

Train with us to become a NRA certified instructor
Knowing how to shoot is an important requirement for NRA instructors, but you will also need to know how to teach others to shoot. NRA Instructor Training Courses help you develop the additional knowledge, skills and techniques needed to organize and teach courses in the NRA Basic Firearm Training Program.

The NRA Certified Pistol Instructor Course is taught by a NRA Certified Training Counselor.  Candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures, basic public speaking skills, training methodology, use of a training team, training aids, course organization, budget considerations, and how to prepare to instruct an initial basic pistol course to individuals with little or no experience.

Each candidate will be provided with the appropriate lesson plans and basic course student packet.  Course includes role-play with candidates working both individually and in teams.  Each candidate is evaluated on his/her ability to safety handle firearms with confidence, use of appropriate training aids, and adherence to the basic pistol lesson plans.  All learning objectives will be accomplished utilizing the teaching philosophies expected of NRA Certified Instructors.

Each instructor candidate must complete Phase 1 (NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting) online and supply proof that they've passed Phase 1 (NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting) with a minimum of 90%. Instructor candidates will need to provide a copy of their Phase 1 completion certificate when they attend the 16-hour Pistol Instructor Course.

The online phase is prerequisite for everyone attending the NRA Pistol Instructor Course. This includes civilian, law-enforcement, and military. This serves to vet a candidate's comprehension of the basic knowledge and technical aspects of the course and familiarizes the instructor candidate with what their future students will be learning in the online phase. Instructor candidates must also pass the
NRA Pistol Instructor Pre-Qualification and be present for the entire course. The NRA Pistol Instructor Pre-Qualification details can be found here.

The tuition cost for the NRA Pistol Instructor Course is only $350 per person and does not include the Phase 1 online cost. Tuition cost for the NRA Pistol Instructor Course also does not include pre-qual associated cost of ammunition, range use fee if you don't have a NRA Range Membership, or the one-time $10 fee for an NRA Range Card if you do not already have one.
